As of the beginning of March, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Amsterdam was closed. Consequently, Hong Kong lost its regional office in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg). However, as trade relations between the Netherlands and Hong Kong remain important and of high frequency. Therefore, George Ammerlaan, former Director Benelux of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ms Ling Hu, former staff member of the HKTDC, and Ms Selina Chan, director of recruitment company Persona Grata, have taken the initiative to set up the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands.
The importance of having a Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands is reflected by the fact that the Netherlands currently is Hong Kong’s 10th largest market and 13th largest trade partner worldwide. Exports from Hong Kong to the Netherlands amounted HKD 37.3 billion in 2009, while imports from the Netherlands amounted HKD 15.5 billion. Besides, the Hong Kong network in the Netherlands includes some 6000 importers, 1130 exporters, and 2400 service companies.
The goal of this chamber of commerce, officially set up in Amsterdam on 21st April 2010, is to promote bilateral trade between Hong Kong and the Netherlands in the broadest sense. This may include activities such as the promotion of the image of Hong Kong in the Netherlands, offering services such as business matching and organising/assisting missions from the Netherlands to Hong Kong, and assisting Hong Kong companies that are interested in doing business in or via the Netherlands.
The Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands offers partners different kind of packages concerning their services. Please feel free to inquire the chamber about what it can do for you or your business.
